José Antonio Díaz Barberán was born in Malaga in 1956. He studied drawing and painting in the School of Fine Arts in San Telmo.
In 1978, he held his first exposition. In 1989, Barberán moved to Madrid where he continued exhibiting his works in galleries such as Galeria Heler, which is considered the premier gallery of the Spanish realism. His hyper-realism style paintings drew attention and were highly revered allowing his works to be hung next to master artists like Antonio López, Christopher Toral, and Naranko. He also exhibited his works internationally in Paris, London, Brussels, and the United States.
